Crash Report Indiana is run by Poynter & Bucheri, LLC, a law firm. It is not a government website and is not affiliated with any police agency. We don't sell or issue crash reports. We explain where to get yours, for free.

Your crash report is one of the first things an insurance company reads. Here's how to get yours.

Step 1: Figure out which agency wrote it

Look at the slip or card the officer gave you. It could be IMPD (most of Indianapolis), the Indiana State Police (often on interstates), a city or town department, or a county sheriff's office.

Step 2: Get the report

Step 3: Check it for mistakes

See what to check and how to fix errors.

How long does a crash report take?

Officers have to finish and file the report before you can get it, so it usually isn't available the same day. Indiana law requires the officer to forward the report within 24 hours after finishing the investigation (IC 9-26-2-2). Timing depends on the agency and how complex the crash was. If you can't find yours yet, check back in a few days or call the agency's records office.

Get your crash report early. It helps you check the facts while they're fresh. Indiana injury claims usually have a two-year deadline, and some are shorter.

Hurt in the crash?

Our fee is 25%* on motor vehicle accident cases. Free consultation.

*The 25% fee applies only to motor vehicle (car, truck, and motorcycle) accident cases settled prior to trial. If there is no recovery, the client owes no fee. Case costs and expenses paid by the firm are reimbursed from any settlement or recovery. This 25% fee is valid for 15 days after the date last advertised.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my Indiana crash report?

First, find out which agency wrote it. The officer's slip or card usually says. IMPD reports are available on BuyCrash.com or in person. Indiana State Police, sheriff and town reports are covered on our State Police and other agencies page.

How long until my crash report is ready?

It depends on the agency. Neither IMPD nor State Police publishes a set wait time. The officer has to finish the report and have it approved first, so it may take a few days or longer.

How much does an IMPD crash report cost?

In person at 50 N. Alabama St., Room E100, it's $12. Online fees on BuyCrash.com may differ.

Can I fix a mistake on my crash report?

You can ask the agency that wrote it to review a mistake. See what to check and how to ask for a correction.

What if police didn't come to my crash?

You may still have reporting duties. See what to do when no officer responds.
